Breed Specific Legislation (BSL)/Breed Discriminatory Legislation (BDL) is an impediment to creating safe and humane communities in New Mexico and it violates our individual rights.  The threat of BSL in New Mexico should be removed.  BSL is also dangerous as it gives a false sense of security to a local community.  Such ineffective laws give a community the false impression that with its passage, Breed Specific Legislation will quell or reduce dog bite incidents and attacks in their community.  There is not one community in the United States which has enacted Breed Specific Legislation that has seen a reduction in dog bites/attacks as a result of its passage.  Removing breed discriminatory/specific legislation, ordinances and regulations paves the way for us, as a state, to begin addressing the true causes of dog bites and attacks and create long term, effective solutions that benefit New Mexico's people and pets. .
